Description:

CTA, the City-Wide Tenants Association, meets the last Thursday of every month at the Chelsea Collaborative at 318 Broadway. We do collective casework for tenants and homeowners in foreclosure or in foreclosed homes and other tenants rights work. We are part of a statewide movement of "Bank Tenant Associations" fighting displacement in the model started by City Life/Vida Urbana.

Our meetings start in Spanish by me and the interpreter sits with the 1 or 2 English-speakers and does simultaneous. Our normal agenda is below so you get an idea. The interpreter (YOU!) would leave and sit 1 on 1 with our volunteer lawyer to interpret during an intake. Actually, recently we've also been needing an interpreter to stay in the meeting and continue to sit with English-speakers, so two interpreters is ideal, but we have a lot of bilingual members who have been stepping up to help interpret or else I run the meeting bi-lingual. Meetings usually have 10-15 people so it is pretty low-key and we are flexible with structure depending on the size of the group and language.I'm sending attached some vocabulary am happy to talk with anyone interested to answer questions. I'm really open to feedback on how we run the meeting and hope to work together with you on how best to do that. 6-8pm
